Bollywood diva Kiara Advani wonders if making changes in one particular aspect about Kabir Singh would have assisted in toning down the backlash the movie received from the masses after its release.
Actor Kiara Advani had a spectacular 2019 with two back-to-back hits in Kabir Singh and Good Newwz. But even after having several new projects lined up for 2020, the beautiful actor is still finding it immensely hard to get away from the shadow of the controversial Kabir Singh in which she played the role of Preeti, the love interest of Kabir Singh, the protagonist, played to perfection by the talented Shahid Kapoor.
In a recent interview with journalist Anupama Chopra, Kiara was asked if she would have approached things differently had she been presented with a film like Kabir Singh now, especially when she has more power to choose her films. “Both Shahid and myself were well aware of the film (we were getting into), and everything that we knew would come with it,” said Kiara, since they could inspiration from the superhit blockbuster Telugu movie Arjun Reddy, from which Kabir Singh was inspired.
Kiara said the character Preeti that she portrayed in Kabir Singh was unlike any other character she played on the screen so far. She said, “And Kabir Singh was probably the hardest of them all because anyone who knows me knows my thinking,” and she further added that Kabir Singh “was so real and so flawed.”
Kabir Singh was directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the same person who also directed the Telugu super-hit Arjun Reddy earlier. The Bollywood movie collected a whopping 350 crore worldwide even after multiple negative reviews and allegations of being misogynistic.
Kiara further said, “So much was made out of it, and so much backlash happened, it was so exhausting…” and she further added, “anything I do today, Preeti does not leave me.” She said that as an actor, “the director had his perspective, we had ours, and the audience theirs and that was divided, but I feel you can’t disrespect the intelligence of the audience.”
Kiara said that “one some level, there were things that were raised in the debate (around the film) that were actually healthy… Somewhere we get really hard on certain films, and I don’t know if it was that fair to be that hard on this film.”
Kiara was of the opinion that as the story of Kabir Singh was narrated from the perspective of Kabir, the protagonist, it might not have presented a balanced picture to the audience. “Sometimes I wonder had you seen Preeti’s life when she goes missing in the second half, maybe there would have been some sort of justification… Maybe had the audience seen what she went through when the separation happened would they have been so hard?…” said Kiara.
Kiara Advani has many interesting projects lined up like BhoolBhulaiyaa 2, Indu Ki Jawaani, Sherhaah, and Laxxmi Bomb, to name a few.
