Best 5 hindi film performances of 2019 that are likely to be snubbed by all film awards.
The year is about to end, marking the beginning of the award season in the country. 2019 has not been a great year for Hindi cinema. Most of the movies, though box-office wise went off the chart, were of questionable quality. Like the box-office, the film awards too are no more a credible measure of a movie’s worth. We all know that awards in India are less about talent, hard work and quality and more about the attendees. However, we are not here to scrutinize the credibility of film awards. That is something as clear as day. We are here to discuss our most favorite performances of 2019. Performances, that certainly deserve, but won’t be taking home any awards.
Sanya Malhotra (Photograph): One of our favorite performances of the year, yet it breaks our heart to tell that we will be surprised if Sanya Malhotra is even mentioned in the nominations. She plays Miloni, a shy Bombay raised Gujrati girl and completely embodies her with ease and perfection. You can evaluate the potential of an actor when they manage to hold your attention even when sharing screen space with the likes of Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Manoj Bajpayee (Sonchiriya): A true performer does not need screen time to make an impact. Manoj Bajpayee plays the character of Mann Singh in this bold, gripping drama. This isn’t a full-fledged lead role. This is more like an extensive cameo, yet Bajpayee manages to deliver a profound performance. We cannot imagine any other actor pulling off the role so well and making it one of the most memorable aspects of the film.
Kangana Ranaut (Judgemental Hai Kya): It is not the first time Kangana plays the unstable, out of one’s mind kind of a character in a movie. However, she brings in a breath of fresh air on-screen with her portrayal of Bobby who is wacky and wise and so much more. While Kangana’s sister Rangoli can’t seem to stop raving over Manikarnika, we are rooting for Bobby all the way.
Gulshan Devaiah (Mard ko Dard Nahi Hota): Another underappreciated movie with another underappreciated performance. Gulshan Devaiah plays not one but two characters in the movie and does justice to both with equal finesse.
Amrita Singh (Badla): The film has Amitabh Bachchan and Tapsee Pannu in the lead and yet we have Amrita Singh on our list and not them. Amrita Singh plays Rani Kaur, a woman whose son goes missing. The brave and realistic portrayal connects instantly with the audiences and manages to hold the ground even after they have left the theaters.
Please know that these performances have not been rated in any particular order. They may not be graced with awards but we hope they find a wider appreciation among audiences.
