The ICC is going to conduct the 7th T20I World Cup in Australia later this year. There is a tremendous amount of interest and excitement among the spectators and the excited spectators are keen to see their favorite team and players display top-notch performances.
West Indies won it last in 2016 beating England in the final at the Eden Garden but which team is going to lift the elusive trophy T20 World Cup trophy? Will it be the West Indies again or will it be some other team. This can be a difficult question to answer for many because of the fickle nature of T20 Cricket where things change at a rapid pace. But the Prince of Trinidad, the former captain of team West Indies came to rescue and surfaced his opinion.
The 50-year-old Brian Lara who looks fitter for his age, was in India recently to take part in the Road Safety tournament that got postponed due to Corona-virus, had a chat with ESPN Cricinfo. Lara offered his opinions on various topics related to Cricket that included his favorite pics for the upcoming T20I World Cup. The left-handed batsman picked three teams as the top contenders to win the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.
Lara picked three teams, two-times world champion West Indies, India, and Australia as his top-three picks to lift the tournament. Lara believes the Virat Kohli led Indian team is pretty professional and dangerous and could win the title that they had last won in 2007 and Australi, being the host country and the fact that they have never won the trophy and playing in their own backyard with the crowd’s strong support, would be a tough team to beat. Lara believes the inconsistency of team West Indies could hunt them and could be a worry for them but on their day, there is no better team when it comes to playing the T20 format of the game.
Lara said, “In terms of a team, obviously, I want to see the West Indies go all the way and win. India, with the fact that they produce so many international cricketers through their league, has enhanced every single player who plays for India. I mean, KL Rahul is my favorite player in the world, I love watching him, and I think India is going to be a force to reckon with,”
“Australia at home… it’s not going to be an easy World Cup for anyone. Australia is going to be worried about India and the West Indies; West Indies are going to be worried about everybody because of their inconsistency sometimes. So it’s going to be a great World Cup to look at,” the left-handed genius added.
Brain Lara also surprised one and all by picking India’s KL Rahul as his favorite batsman that he loves to watch and also said he would have loved to have a technique like that of Rahul during his playing days.
“His technique and grace is just unbelievable. Of course, up there in the top three you’ve got Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma but every time I see him (Rahul) facing a delivery, I just love it; his head is over the ball all the time, he has a technique that I wish I had,” Lara said further.
Brain Lara was here in India to lead the West Indies legends in the Road Safety T20 tournament before the tournament got postponed due to the deadly Corona-virus.
